Bali Handara Golf & Country Club Resort is located in the slope of active volcano, Mt. Bedugul, 1,200 meters above sea level. The luxury resort is surrounded by refreshing mountain scenery, fresh air ranges from 14-24 Celcius degrees, volcan crater and tropical rain forest, that displays a dramatic background when golfers make their approach shot to the green.
Though the course was designed by five-time British Open champion Peter Thomson and colleagues, Michael Wolveridge and Ronald Fream, it offers a friendly 18-hole champion course experience even to low handicappers.
The 4th hole usually captures attention of most of players. Stretched along 435 yards, the par-three hole displays a decline ended with a 90-degree dogleg right. The forest on the right side of fairway bars golfers from bypassing the hole from above, while bushes are grown in the left side. Accuracy is the key to hit the second shot through the water hazard to the green, which can be accomplished by using long putter.
The 14th hole is the signature hole of the course. The par-five hole stretched 203 yards displays inclining green and spectacular mountain view as the background. The last hole is a par 5 declining from tee box, re-inclining in the second shot and heading to the clubhouse in the third shot. Bunker in the fairway poses as the first obstacle. Once golfer succeeds it, a possible birdie is in hands.
The course is facilitated with driving range for warming up, three greens with chipping areas and few bunkers to test players’ abilities. It is accessible in two-hour driving from Nusa Dua and an hour from Ubud.
